Case Study One

Business Type: Aerospace and Defence Industry

Savings: R16m

DETAILS:
An aerospace and defence systems manufacturer with multinational operations targeting a 10% reduction in energy consumption was able to achieve savings in excess of R16m per annum by replacing traditional lighting systems with energy efficient technologies.

The project involved changing more than 120,000 lamps with energy efficient technologies. The entire turnkey project had a payback period of just over a year.

Case Study Two

Business Type: Aerospace and Defence Industry

Savings: R2,5m

DETAILS:
An aerospace and defence systems manufacturer with multinational operations targeting a 10% reduction in energy consumption is able to achieve savings in excess of R2.5m per annum by replacing an old boiler system.

An audit of the system requirements was completed and it was suggested that a suitably sized modern boiler be installed closer to the facility where the steam is required. The new boiler system has been designed with the ability to be converted to accommodate biomass fuel in the future. The project payback is estimated to be just over 3 years.

Case Study Three

Business Type: Educational Facility

Savings: R480,000

DETAILS:
The student residence of an educational facility which accommodates up to 500 students required a new water heating system after the old geysers had surpassed its expected lifespan.

An audit of the facility was conducted and it was suggested that a combination of solar water heating and heat pumps be installed. The project received approval and was implemented on a turnkey basis within a few months. This resulted in savings that could be channeled in other areas of improving the facility.

Case Study Four

Business Type: A Major Food Processing Operation

Savings: R950,000

DETAILS:
A food processing business that is a key supplier to a major retail chain noticed a significant increase in electricity costs without being able to account for this.

After conducting an audit it was found that the customer had been overcharged as a result of the local supply authority applying the incorrect tariff. The entire process was managed on behalf of the client and the electricity account was credited.

Business Type: An International Beverage Manufacturing Operation

Savings: R500,000

DETAILS:
An international beverage manufacturer required assistance with reducing energy expenses. After conducting an audit of the business’s energy consumption profile and purchasing arrangements, a tariff optimisation opportunity was identified.

The more cost effective tariff was implemented on behalf of the client which resulted in a 10% saving in electricity costs. The savings are being invested in energy efficiency projects to further reduce energy consumption and reduce carbon emissions.

Business Type: A Steel Products Manufacturer

Savings: R280,000
